LAWEEKLY "GO"

"Imaginatively staged . . . by director Darin Dahms, the comic-strip action takes place in a strange dreamscape . . . peopled with hooded figures, squabbling ghosts, outsized heroines and supernaturally powerful villains."

"bolstered by well-crafted performances and striking production values"

"Most memorable within the adept ensemble are Prud'homme and Odell, in blazing command of their outrageous characters."

Deborah Klugman, LA Weekly

"Director Darin Dahms and a sterling cast . . . underscores the piece's delightful weirdness."
-- F. Kathleen Foley, Los Angeles Times

"A sense of Keen irony underlines the entire production as Sampson's sharp script is supported by Dahm's tragicomic vision.
--Amy Lyons, BACKSTAGE

Alceste by B. Walker Sampson
directed by Darin Dahms

A free adaptation from Euripides, Alceste pits together gods, ghosts, and superheroes with ordinary so-and-sos who make extraordinary sacrifices to try to tell the Future to consider itself. Objects are too brightly colored to see without squinting, while others remind us of people we're trying to forget. Boats and bathtubs roll in to where they have no business, and there's a terrible hissing that sounds like the end of things.

B. Walker Sampson's plays include: Absence of a House, Alceste, Assistance, Clear Across, Puppet Kafka, Roosevelt Island, Silent Steps: A Play with MacGuffins, Slouch, They All Look Like Bats in the Dark, and What Do You Think of the Moon? His plays have been produced or developed by: Soho Rep, Theatre of NOTE, the Playwrights’ Center, Drama of Works, Outsider's Inn Collective, Double Take Theatre, Audacity Theatre Lab, Source Theatre, BRIC, Pace University, PegLeg Productions, Oracle Theatre, Conflict of Interest Theatre, NyLon Fusion Theatre Collective, the Off-Off Broadway Play Festival, and HERE's American Living Room Festival.
