![]() Scott McKinley The edgier neighborhood of the LA theatre community lost one of its best-loved ambassadors on February 27, 2013 with the sudden, health-related passing of Scott McKinley. Scott was a mainstay of Theatre of NOTE from 2000 until his death, spending many years chairing the committee responsible for shepherding hundreds of submitted scripts through the screening process that would eventually lead a small fraction of them to production on the NOTE stage. Anyone who has enjoyed NOTE's adventurous brand of theatre for the last dozen years has Scott McKinley to thank. The NOTE ensemble has always marched to music that only it could hear, and Scotty marched to an even more personalized beat--a nonconformist's nonconformist. Yet he was one of the sweetest, most accessible people any of us had ever met, and once met, invariably developed quickly into a selfless, supportive friend. To spend any of time with Scotty was to place him at or near the top of your Best Guys Ever list. He was far more than a superb theatremaker; his photography and poetry will have lives of their own for years to come. But those are topics for another article. For now, Theatre of NOTE and our large extended family would like to raise a glass to our beloved pal. That's the perfect word for Scott McKinley; it's what he called you as he hugged you, just before finding out how your life was going and what he could do to make it better. You made all our lives better, Scotty. Thanks, pal. |
