Theatre of NOTE Announces our 25th Anniversary Season
Los Angeles' most innovative theatre company mixes it up in '05, celebrating twenty-five years of dedication to new plays, new adaptations of the classics and one-acts. Theatre of NOTE SEASON 2005 THE LEARNED LADIES February 18 - March 26 Directed by Larry Biederman Produced for NOTE by Kirsten Vangsness A contemporary adaptation of Molière's stylish comedy by Freyda Thomas--rhymed couplets, young lovers and old fools! A boisterously funny farce about women seeking enlightenment in such excess that they become more out of touch than when they were when ignorant. Join us at NOTE while we search for a little California consciousness--Molière style! LYDIA IN BED - A World Premiere! By Phinneas Kiyomura April 29 - June 4 The sexually fragmented story of a college girl with an uncertain past and an even less certain future. Seen through a fractured timeline and from various points of view, "Lydia" is an unblinking study of familial relationships, sexual politics and personal choice. It does not attempt to offer simple answers or simple characters. It is not for kids. CRAWL FADE TO WHITE - A World Premiere! By Sheila Callaghan September 9 - October 15 A scream is heard throughout the stratosphere. It is the voice of the lamp. Louise is selling this expensive family heirloom to keep her daughter April in school and cease April's more sordid "consultant" profession. April rushes home with lover in tow to halt the proceedings and save the lamp, but it has been intercepted by a quiet and bizarre middle-aged couple with a haunting secret. Attempts to reclaim the lamp are made, as a misplaced father slowly fades to white in the background. Don't miss this new play by the same award-winning playwright who penned last year's hit production, Kate Crackernuts. A MULHOLLAND CHRISTMAS CAROL Back by popular demand! By Bill Robens Produced for NOTE by Lynn Odell and Genemichael Barrera Directed by Kiff Scholl November 25 - December 17 Bill Robens' award-winning holiday extravaganza, A Mulholland Christmas Carol, returns to the NOTE stage once again. This side-splitting musical comedy adaptation of A Christmas Carol--retold with L.A.'S water baron, William Mulholland, as Scrooge--fuses Charles Dickens' classic tale of redemption with a hilarious tongue-in-cheek critique on political corruption in Los Angeles.. And, once again, a recreation of the St. Francis Dam--180 ft. high and 600 ft. long--will be destroyed every night, live, on stage, releasing 11..4 billion gallons of water onto the unsuspecting audience in the only stage version of the whole tragic story. Horror, pathos and catchy tunes; all brought to you by the same creative team responsible for this plays smash hit productions in 2002, 2003 and 2004 at NOTE. Other NOTE-able Events in 2005: THE 10TH ANNUAL THEATRE OF NOTE PERFORMANCE MARATHON Produced for NOTE by Richard Werner January 22nd- ONE NIGHT ONLY Los Angeles' most prolific artists perform sets no longer than 10 minutes, with no other rules. ANNUAL LATE NIGHT 5-MINUTE ONE-ACT PLAY SERIES Date TBD Once again, Theatre of NOTEs critically acclaimed five minute one act play series hits the stage-- 10 plays, 5 minutes each, culled from hundreds of submissions and inspired by a pre-determined theme (which is the title of the evening). NOTEWORTHY READING SERIES Date TBD Theatre of NOTE's NOTEworthy Reading Series is designed to establish and foster dynamic new relationships between playwrights and Theatre of NOTE. The NOTEworthy series allows writers to develop and stage readings of new plays, as well as benefit from post-show feedback from both audience and cast members. NOTEworthy in June 2004 hosted three new plays written by Bill Robens, Andréa J. Onstad and Alex Drenmann. |
