Theatre of NOTE is proud to present a staged reading of QUANTUM, by Tara Dawn Moses, as part of NATIVE PERFORMING ARTS NETWORK’s National Day of Theater Readings for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives.
“Native activists, who are usually family members of someone who’s gone missing, have been speaking out about this issue for decades,” said Jeanette Harrison, creative director of Native Performing Arts Network, which coordinated the National Day of Theater Readings for MMIWR. “Hopefully, this action by theaters across the country will amplify their work and inspire action and change.”
QUANTUM will be presented by Theatre of NOTE company members and local Native artists on Tuesday, May 5th at 7pm.

Ivy Johnson was adopted in the fall of 1998 to a Mexican American mother and an African American father. Although it’s obvious that she’s of color, she has never known where she comes from or her racial background – that is until she sorts through her mail at Thanksgiving. The following weeks come with major discoveries, but they only leave her with more questions. What makes someone Native? A blood quantum mandate demanded by the Federal Government? Culture, language, and pride? What does it mean when your identity is stripped away from you? Rediscovering culture, reclaiming Indigenous identity, and learning what it means to be a Native woman in contemporary America is the road Ivy must travel. Inspired by Tara Dawn Moses’s maternal grandfather’s story.
Playwright Tara Dawn Moses
Tara Moses is a citizen of Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, multi-award-winning playwright, award-winning director, co-Founder of Groundwater Arts, and the first Native writer to receive a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere. She is the writer behind The Oklahoma Cycle, what will become a seven play, interconnected cycle centered on contemporary Seminole and Mvskoke peoples in Oklahoma. The cycle currently includes Arbeka, Snag, Billie, and Erke. Selected development/production theaters include: Audible; Company One Theatre (Boston, MA); AlterTheatre Ensemble (San Rafael, CA); Kitchen Dog Theater (Dallas, TX); Geva Theatre Center (Rochester, NY); Oregon Shakespeare Festival (Ashland, OR); American Indian Community House (New York, NY); Sound Theatre Company (Seattle, WA); Good Luck Macbeth Theatre Company (Reno, NV); Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program (New Haven, CT); and Native Voices at the Autry (Los Angeles, CA). She is an associate member of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and a Dramatists Guild member. She is from the Muscogee Creek Reservation and holds a MFA in Directing from Brown/Trinity.
